Raleigh is a beautiful city and there's always something happening downtown! Home of several universities and colleges, you'll find that Raleigh has great restaurants, local music, and nightlife.
The best shopping can be found in The Village District, North Hills, and Crabtree Mall. The Village District is a small higher-end outdoor shopping center that offers great window shopping and a place to walk around on a Sunday afternoon. Forest Park is located nearby, which is an older neighborhood with homes from the early 1900s.
Another popular historic neighborhood is Oakwood, located only a half mile from downtown. Here you can find Victorian and Bungalow-style homes with wonderful first floor spaces for entertaining built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The neighborhood is bordered by Oakwood Cemetery - a beautiful 102 acre cemetery where Raleigh's confederate soldiers were buried. Cameron Park and Oakwood are both included in our Top Neighborhoods in Downtown Raleigh List. Be sure to check it out for our other top picks!
The Wake County Public School System serves Wake County, Raleigh, Cary, and Apex - with many excellent elementary, middle, and high school campuses spread out around the area. You'll be sure to find a great school for your kids, however please review our Wake County Capped Schools Guide, since many schools in the area are 'capped' and your child may be assigned to a different school than you were expecting.
New construction homes are available in the Raleigh area with more being built every day. New construction helps our limited supply of homes, and are a great option to consider.
For those who work from home: internet speeds have been greatly improving, although we haven't gotten a ton of Google Fiber yet. Most of the Google Fiber cable laid has been around North Hills and Crabtree Valley Mall. Check out our Google Fiber Maps for more information.
