The Mordecai Community, located on the northeast corner of Raleigh, close to downtown, contains one of Raleigh’s oldest neighborhoods. In 1998, the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Neighborhoods in the Mordecai Community are: Oakdale, Historic Mordecai, East Mordecai, Pilot Mill, and Capitol Park. The oldest house in Raleigh, built in 1785, as well the the cabin where President Andrew Johnson was born are both found at Mordecai Historic Park, located in the center of the neighborhood.
