The Village at Pilot Mill, part of the Mordecai Community, is located near downtown Raleigh, north of Peace Street and behind Peace University. The neighborhood is made up of single-family homes from 1600–3000 square feet. Homes for sale range from $400,000–$500,000. All houses have two car garages and community maintained mowing and irrigation. Covenants and by-laws can be found at: http://www.pilotmillonline.com/resource-center.html.
Originally made up of homes rented to the workers of the nearby Pilot Mill and their families, the houses of Pilot Mill were destroyed when the mill closed and the area was left vacant for twenty years. Encouraged by the rehabilitation of the neighboring community of Capitol Park in the early 2000s, Pilot Mill was successfully rebuilt and renovated.
Designed with the intent of fostering community, the Village at Pilot Mill features small lots, alleys, sidewalks, and a focus on walkability. The neighborhood hosts several social events throughout the year, including wine tastings and Easter egg hunts.
The base schools for the Village at Pilot Mill are Conn Elementary, Daniels Middle School, and Broughton High School; these are all magnet schools.
